Ten & Two Magazine – The Anglers Journey

 I found a really nice web magazine – Ten & Two Magazine, Vol. 2 No. 2. – winter 2012.
191 pages of pure fly fishing life style inspiration. http://www.mygazines.com/title/5150

My first impressions

+ Nice articles (and lots of them!)
+ Life style articles (music, art, whisky)
+ Nice photos (and lots of them!)
+ A wide span of fishing, from bonefish to atlantic salmon
+ Free subscription

– Lots of ads (even though some of them are really good and inspiring).
– No fly tying.
– The layout. Much of it looks more like a printed magazine.

Previous issue: Vol. 2, No. 1 – Autumn 2011: http://www.mygazines.com/issue/41044

Thank you so much for the post and review of the magazine! We make every effort to create a memorable experience for our readers and we cherish feedback- both positive and negative- because it leads to a better magazine.
RE: ads. Well, we have to pay for the time and creativity of our writers, photographers, and design folks somehow! Actually, most of our efforts are donated now. The biggest bills we have are technology and travel related. If we are going to be able to keep the magazine free, we need to have ads. All we can do is make them as appealing as possible.
RE: Fly tying. This has been an ongoing discussion for us. Many other sources offer step by step tying instructions, and we’ve been trying to find a way to present it better or at least differently. We are certainly open to suggestions. It is more likely that we will offer those as YouTube videos at some later date.
RE: Layout. Yes, it does look like a printed magazine. We do that on purpose. The Internet has the marvelous ability to integrate many disparate elements into a congruent whole, and we are in the process of doing that. Many people prefer the familiar look of a magazine, but we will be integrating many other digital sectors into the Ten and Two, for lack of a better word, experience in the future. Things like tablet and smartphone apps, podcasts, an active YouTube channel, a daily blog, fishing reports from noted guides from around the world, and of course more that I’m not at liberty to mention. Ten and Two is planned to be a destination, coming soon to a computer screen near you!
Again, thanks so much for your kind review. I just wanted to fill you in on our plans to make Ten and Two better!
    Jim Dittmer
